PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Software Engineering (SE) bachelor’s degree program offers a unique blend of academic learning and practical industry experience. Students gain software engineering skills by working in industry while completing their degree requirements. Each semester students work in either a paid co-op position with an employer or on an industry-sponsored project, contributing as a team member on real industry projects.

The program is designed to provide a comprehensive education in software engineering while ensuring students gain valuable experience. 

Program Structure:
Students transfer into this upper-division program after two years of study elsewhere or at Minnesota State University, Mankato.  
First Semester: The Academy
The first semester is an “Academy” experience where students will: 
  • Work on an industry project as part of a team
  • Take core courses essential for software engineering
  • Develop professional skills crucial for career success
  • Learn how to learn independently, a vital skills for continuous growth
  • Search for and secure their first paid industry co-op placement
Following Semesters: Co-Op and Virtual Coursework
After completing the Academy, students will: 
  • Work full-time in a padi co-op position
  • Continue their SE program through virtual coursework on nights and weekends

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Integrated Engineering is a multi-disciplinary, project-based engineering degree program that develops engineering skills for various disciplines, combining aspects from traditional engineering studies and liberal arts.

This vitally important program is designed to meet the rising demand of modern industry for products and manufacturing that are progressing towards greater diversity and sophistication.

The goal is to ensure a depth and breadth of learning that goes beyond the technical aspects of specialist engineering disciplines. Now more than ever, industry is looking for graduates with a broader educational background that includes a knowledge of engineering principles, hands- on project experience, keen problem-solving ability, and strong interpersonal skills.

This program is offered at Saint Paul College, Normandale and Mesabi College. Students earn a bachelor’s degree while gaining hands-on, real-world engineering skills preparing them for a smoother transition into industry after graduation.

REQUIREMENTS

Pre-Engineering and General Education Courses:

Mathematics: Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Multivariable Calculus, Differential
Equations

Science: Physics 1 (calc-based), Physics 2, Chemistry 1, Chem 2/Phys 3/Biol 1/Probability

Engineering: Intro to Engineering, Statics, Dynamics, Circuits 1 w/ lab

General Education: Composition, Tech writing or Speech, Micro or Macro
Economics, 2 classes from Social Science, 2 classes from Humanities
